Apply ICD diagnostic and procedural coding and CPT/HCPCS coding to higher level case scenarios. Practice the application of diagnosis and procedure codes validating coding accuracy using clinical information found in the health record. Apply and promote ethical coding standards while adhering to current regulations and established guidelines in code assignment. Demonstrate encoder software and practice applications. Prerequisite: MDC 101, MDC 103 (formerly HIT 217), and MDC 105 (formerly HIT 218), with a grade of C or better in each course; or permission of the program coordinator. Corequisites: MDC 203 (formerly HIT 222) and MDC 275 (formerly HIT 275).
