Fast Track with a Future Focus

Korbin Proctor’s college story started before he even graduated high school. Through AACC’s Early College Access Program (ECAP), he got a head start easing into college life by taking just a couple of courses.

That introduction, paired with the skills he picked up in JROTC like public speaking and PowerPoint presentations, was exactly what he needed. “It really prepared me for the larger college scheme of doing five courses at the same time,” Proctor said.

Proctor graduated from AACC with two degrees – one in homeland security and intelligence analysis, and another in general biosciences. He has a strong interest in bioengineering, but his strategy is to begin his career in government or law enforcement.

One big turning point in Korbin’s journey? Earning the Palace Foundation Scholarship, which he found through AACC’s scholarship portal. This helped cover tuition and also gave him the opportunity to meet with Adm. Mike Mullen, former chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. “It was actually pretty neat to actually get to talk to him,” Proctor said. “It was a great experience.”

After interning with the Indianapolis Police Department, Proctor has his eyes set on interning with NCIS. “I hadn't really heard about NCIS besides the TV show,” he laughed.

Korbin plans to continue his education online through the University of Maryland Global Campus while gaining real-world experience through internships. He’s on a mission to make an impact – one step at a time.
