Anne Arundel Community College today announced the appointment of Clayton Railey III, Ph.D., as interim provost and vice president for Learning, effective July 1, 2026. The appointment follows the retirement of President Dawn Lindsay and current Provost Tanya Millner’s transition to interim president.
“We are fortunate to have someone of Dr. Railey's caliber step into the provost role," Millner said. "His extensive expertise in teaching and learning, administration, accreditation and curriculum development ensures that our students, faculty and staff will continue to receive the highest level of academic leadership and support."
Railey brings decades of experience in higher education leadership. He has served as executive vice president and provost at Prince George’s Community College, vice president of workforce and academic programs at Chesapeake College and provost at Bucks County Community College. He retired from Prince George’s Community College in December 2024. Over the course of his career, he also served as a dean, department chair and faculty member.
Railey holds a doctorate in English as well as graduate degrees in theology and American studies. He previously taught American studies at Anne Arundel Community College.
"I am honored that Dr. Millner would ask me to serve in such a critical position for the college, and I look forward to working with my new colleagues, especially the faculty at AACC, to serve our students in their efforts to achieve their goals,” Railey said.
The college is conducting a national search for its next president, with the goal of naming a new president by December 2026 and a preferred start date of July 2027. Applications and nominations are being accepted through Aug. 4, 2026. Additional information about the search is available online.
